Sober Living

A Sober Living Experience in Orange County

Sober living homes, also known as sober houses or halfway houses, are frequently used as a bridge between the constraints (and supports) of addiction treatment and the transition back to the home setting once treatment is completed. Many treatment clinics, both inpatient and outpatient, urge newcomers to spend time in a sober living environment before returning home to their families, communities, and the potential relapse triggers that still exist in those settings.

Whether you’ve just completed rehab, you’ve been out of treatment for a few months, or you recently relapsed and need some support, a sober living home can provide the structure, accountability, and support you need to get back on track.

Addiction Report Of Orange County

According to the “2017 Opioid Overdose & Death in Orange County” report, between 2011 and 2015, the rate of opioid-related emergency department (ED) visits in Orange County grew by 141% since 2005, with 7,457 opioid overdose/abuse cases treated in the ED. During this five-year period, opioids were implicated in seven out of ten overdose deaths investigated by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
Overdoses or poisonings from drugs or alcohol resulted in more than 5,500 hospitalizations and over 700 deaths in Orange County each year. There were roughly 70,000 hospital bed-days, with an average stay of 4.3 days, resulting in total expenditures of around $430 million. Overdose fatalities were found to be mostly unintentional (78.6%), with prescription medicines accounting for over half (51.8%) and opioid usage accounting for 66.8% of all deaths reviewed by the coroner. Prescription opioids were responsible for more than half of all overdoses (56.0 percent; e.g., OxyContin, Hydrocodone).
Interestingly, males were approximately twice as likely as females to be admitted to the hospital and/or die as a result of a drug/alcohol-related event. In contrast, females were 1.6 times more likely than men to overdose on prescription medicines, according to coroner-investigated overdose cases, and the proportion of prescription drug overdoses rose with age, starting with the 35 to 44 year age group (46.1 percent) and up to 65 years and older (87.4 percent ).
The five most commonly prescribed opioids in Orange County are Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Morphine, Methadone, and Hydromorphone. By contrast, deaths by opioids were Hydrocodone (27%), Morphine (25%), Heroin (20%), Oxycodone (19%), and Codeine (16%).
